chameleon – 06/20/2020

For a while now I have been ambiguous —

Neutral.

I have taken many shapes,

Temperatures.

You might think being inconclusive makes you monotone,

A single shade of grey,

Flat.

In fact, it is the opposite.

I am every color at once.

Shapeshifter, chameleon, transient,

A conglomerate.

I am any shape, any color you want me to be,

I think you want me to be.

But it burns to be unstable:

An unfinished octet,

An incomplete scale,

A sentence without a period

To yearn for constancy,

Without pain,

Without fear,

It is the human condition.

Yet no one can be constant in a world that always is changing.

To be everything at once is survival.
